Because it is a small bathroom (6 x 8.5 before the remodel enlarged the depth of the shower about 8”) the floor at the room door has to slope up a bit so that the rest of the floor can slope down to the drain. I had a floor drain installed in the bathroom floor, the floor waterproofed with a Kerdi membrane, and the bathroom floor sloped to that drain (using a Kerdi dense foam sloping system under the tile). I do have an insurance policy that protects the bathroom from flooding and water going out into the hall though. I can’t see the sense in having glass doors that will need to be removed should I ever need a wheelchair or walker to shower, so have just a curtain. The second time, I think I left the hand-held spraying while laying on the floor and it just sprayed out under the curtain. Once I did not check the drain for hair (I relied on the fact that hubby usually does that, but was wrong!) during a time when I was shedding a lot of hair with each shower. There is a trough at the front that flows into the front center 4” square drain. My shower floor slopes toward the front, allowing it to more easily replace a tub without having to rework floor joists. I always wipe off all my chrome grab bars and fixtures. I have never in three years washed the walls, which we squeegee or wipe after most showers. It needs only a spritz of cleanser on the floor every couple of weeks to kill the slime bacteria that like to grow in the grooves carved in the floor that ensure good grip. We replaced our tub/shower combo (our only bathroom) with a roll-in solid surface shower (like Corian). Babies often use small bathtubs on a counter, or even a large sink for bathing, as who wants to be washing an infant at ankle level? Kids are allowed to splash in these temporary tubs, since they are in the shower, which can be a real plus! You just need a place to store it if you don’t use it often. As for children, there are plenty of plastic, removable tubs out there that can be placed in a shower for a bath for toddlers and up.
